The Sundown U-Series is the brand’s premier standard-suspension woofer and the most direct replacement for the famous Z v.3 line. It starts with a double-stacked 8.66″ Y35 ferrite motor on a one-piece bumped T-yoke with a 0.6″ top-plate, a 5mm aluminum magnet-ID shorting ring to level inductance over stroke, and a 0.6″ pole extension to keep the coil controlled at high excursion. The 3″ diameter, 2.36″ long 4-layer aluminum coil is the same unit used in the X v.2 series, giving the U the same 1,500-watt RMS rating. Cooling comes from a high-velocity pole vent, ten back-plate air-gap vents, and cast-aluminum vented frame spacer rings, while a new cast-aluminum frame allows taller, more excursion-capable cones than the Z v.3.
