Shop voltage meters and monitors at JS Ultimate Sounds — the cheapest diagnostic tool in car audio, and the one that tells you whether your electrical system is actually keeping up.

Why You Want One

Voltage is the single best indicator of electrical health in an audio build. A healthy system holds roughly 13.5–14.4V with the engine running. If voltage sags below about 12.5V when the bass hits, your amplifier is being starved — it will clip, and clipping is what kills subwoofers. A meter turns that from guesswork into a number you can watch.

What to Do About Low Readings

  • Dips only on bass peaks — usually storage: add a second battery or upgrade the existing one
  • Sustained low voltage under load — that's charging capacity: you need a high output alternator
  • Low at idle, fine at RPM — classic alternator-at-idle shortfall
  • Voltage fine at the battery but low at the amp — undersized wire or a bad ground; check power & ground wire and the Big 3 upgrade

For sizing the fix, see our car audio battery guide. Many bass knobs and signal processors include a voltage display as well.
